Countdown to Camp: Quarterbacks

Today’s final positional preview will look at the quarterbacks with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Trevor Harris takes over from Cody Fajardo as the Roughriders starting quarterback and will look to provide the green and white with a veteran presence at the position.

There should be a battle for the spots behind Harris with holdovers Mason Fine and Jake Dolegala competing against Shea Patterson, Levi Lewis and Zerrick Cooper.

Here is a look at the quarterbacks on the roster for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Quarterbacks

Trevor Harris

The new face of the Roughriders organization, the Waldo, Ohio product will be joining his fifth team in the CFL (Ottawa, Toronto, Edmonton, Montreal). The quarterback is entering is 12th season in the league. In 2022, Harris threw over 4,000 yards for the fifth time his career and tossed 20+ touchdowns for the fourth time in his career. He also brings some championship experience as a two-time Grey Cup champion with Toronto (2012) and Ottawa (2016).

An unsettled ownership in Montreal allowed Harris to become a free agent this past off-season, allowing Saskatchewan to swoop in and sign the quarterback to a two-year contract.

Mason Fine

Last year the North Texas product started the Roughriders final two games of the season after serving as the team’s backup quarterback for the majority of the year. In his two starts, Fine had 364 passing yards and a touchdown for the Roughriders.

In 2021, Patterson spent time with Montreal and BC mostly as short-yardage quarterback. He was the first overall pick in the 2022 USFL Draft by the Michigan Panthers. Patterson was also a 38th round selection by the Texas Rangers in the 2018 Draft.

Levi Lewis
