Starting from May 23rd, provincial regulations regarding alcohol consumption are set to undergo a significant change.
This shift will delegate more decision-making power to municipalities regarding the regulations surrounding public drinking.
Municipalities will now have the option to permit individuals of legal drinking age to consume alcohol in public spaces.
This raises the question: will Regina soon join the ranks of cities where enjoying a chilled beverage on the streets or in parks is permitted?
Unfortunately, that possibility remains distant. In response to an inquiry from 620 CKRM, the city of Regina clarified that the consumption of alcohol in its parks is still prohibited.
The city intends to assess the implications of this regulatory revision and observe the actions taken by other communities in the province before considering any changes.
