Be Careful with Fire During the Long Weekend

The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency is reporting on the wildfire situation in the province.

As of 9 this morning there are 29 active fires in Saskatchewan.  12 are being assessed, 10 are contained, and one has crews protecting property.

The Vermette and Shaw fires continue to burn in northern Saskatchewan, and there are two burning near Pinehouse in North Central Saskatchewan.  One fire is almost 115 thousand thousand hectares in size, that’s 115 square kilometres.  Another fire near Pinehouse is about 35 thousand hectares.

The SPSA is again reminding people to be careful with fire, whether you are making a field lunch, camping, riding an ATV or anything that can cause a spark.

With the long weekend here, some highway closures could go into effect in the fire areas.  People are encouraged to stay away from the fire zones, and to check with the highway hotline for latest information.
