Moose Jaw is set to host the 2023 World Para Ice Hockey Championships

 

The top eight para hockey teams in the world will be in Moose Jaw from May 28-June 4 to take part in the 2023 World Para Ice Hockey Championships.

This year’s event will mark the first time Canada will play host to the championships since 2010 Paralympic Winter Games and will be the first time Canada’s National Para Hockey team will act as hosts for the World Championships.

Team Canada will compete in Pool A alongside Czechia, Korea, and the United States. The top two teams will advance to the semi-finals, with the bottom two teams moving into the quarterfinals.

In Pool B, Germany, Italy, Norway and China will compete for the final two spots in the quarterfinals.

The Americans have claimed the last two World Championships, and have won five gold medals. Canada has won the most medal’s in the tournament history with ten, including four gold medals (the most recent was in 2017).

One player that will be taking part in the tournament is Raphaëlle Tousignant, who will be the first woman to take part as a member for Team Canada.

To begin the tournament, Canada will play three games in three days. On Monday, Canada will meet Korea at 7:oo. The following night they battle Czechia and to wrap up the round-robin, Canada will meet the United States.

The Gold Medal game will be on Sunday, June 4 at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.
