Work on Airport Runway Paused After Death of Worker

Its been a tough couple of days for everyone involved in a major project at Regina’s International Airport.

A worker died Friday morning while working on the maintenance and extension of the airport’s main runway.

In a statement, the Regina Airport Authority says contact, and support for all of the people involved now and into the future.  For the meantime work on the runway is being halted until Monday to allow everyone to regroup.

The airport authority Saturday night shared a statement from the company overseeing the runway extension:

“We are deeply saddened by the unfortunate incident that occurred Friday evening at our airport site. We are currently involved in gathering further information, so at this time we are unable to provide any details or answer any questions. We are also respecting the privacy of the individual and trade contractor involved and are not providing personal information.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends affected by this tragic incident.  We continue to cooperate with the proper authorities to perform the investigation required.” – Jordan Clouthier, B. Eng, LEED GA, District Manager, PCL Construction Management Inc.

Federal Occupational Health and Safety will be leading the investigation into the workers death, but investigations like this take weeks, and sometimes months before details are released.
