The Regina Pats have signed their first overall pick from the 2023 draft.
Cohen Klassen signed his name to a WHL Scholarship and Development contract, after the Pats drafted him with their first pick, which wasn’t until the third round.
“We think he’s a potential top-9 forward with the ability to be a top-6 forward in time,” Regina Pats Director of Scouting Dale McMullin said. “He’s got a pretty good skill level, a pretty good understanding of the game and his compete level is real good.”
The 14 year old from Martensville is a 5-foot-10, 155 lb. left-shooting forward. He scored 61 points in 24 games in 2022-23 with the Martensville Marauders.
“Klassen appears to have the potential to be a really good all-around player,” Regina Pats GM and Head Coach John Paddock said in a statement. “He skates well and will have good size. We see him playing either on the wing or center down the road.”
