Mosaic returns to the Queen City after three-year break

After a three-year hiatus, the Mosaic – Festival of Cultures is back for its 53rd year.

It was back in 2019 that the festival was last held, with this year’s event, which runs from June 1st to 3rd, featuring 17 different pavilions set up across the city for residents to check out.

Nish Prasad, the Mosaic chair, said they are excited to return and for people to check out what they have in store.

“We are very excited to see the event happening this year. I see there is a new energy and enthusiasm among the Mosaic volunteers after being back after the gap of three years,” he said. “They can expect to enjoy the delicious food, colourful costumes, and decors, plus lively music, cultural displays and performances.”

Prasad said as Saskatchewan grows more diverse, the Mosaic Festival provides a chance to learn about all cultures.

“Saskatchewan is growing in diversity, and Mosaic provides people with an opportunity to learn about different cultures, celebrate our commonalities and appreciate our differences; it reminds people to be proud of their roots and helps us to pass on their respective cultures to the next generation,” he said. “As the province is growing in diversity, a festival Mosaic gets to be more and more important.”

Mosaic organizers are bringing back the festival’s original format as well, including free transportation that allows people to easily travel from pavilion to pavilion, experiencing international food and drink.
