Sod-turning ceremony officially kicks off LDC canola crushing expansion in Yorkton

Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe is in Yorkton today to officially mark the start of Louis Dreyfus Company’s expansion of its canola crushing facility.

Moe says in a news release canola is a key part of the province’s economy, adding the government is “committed to increasing canola crushing in our province to 75 per cent by 2030.”

LDC initially announced the expansion in April.

Brian Conn, LDC’s Country Manager for Canada, says their business in Yorkton has come a long way since the facility first opened in 2009.

Conn explains they will build another facility south of the existing one, which will increase capacity to 2 million tons. He says over 100 employees are working at the facility and they’re looking to hire 80 more by the time the expansion is complete.

The expanded LDC canola crushing plant should be operational by the end of 2025.
