As the Saskatchewan Roughriders approached their preseason finale in Winnipeg on Friday, they faced several decisions regarding their opening day roster. However, following the roster cutdown on Saturday, many of these decisions remain unresolved, positions including the backup quarterback, left tackle and punter.
Today’s practice will provide the first opportunity to see the Roughriders’ lineup for Sunday’s game in Edmonton.
There are four quarterbacks on Saskatchewan’s roster: Trevor Harris, Mason Fine, Jake Dolegala, and Shea Patterson. Today will be the first chance to see who could be listed as the backup when the Riders take on the Elks.
At left tackle, with Jerald Hawkins away from the team due to a personal matter, Saskatchewan still has a question at the starting position heading into Sunday’s game. One option for the green and white to replace Hawkins is to move Philip Blake over to left tackle.
Two punters remain on Saskatchewan’s roster this week, but with a quad injury to Kaare Vedvik, Adam Korsak will likely handle the punting duties for Week 1.
Saskatchewan will practice at home for the first three days this week before heading to Edmonton on Saturday.
620 CKRM will have coverage of Sunday’s game beginning at 2:00 with Countdown to Kickoff. The opening kickoff is at 5:00.
