Roughriders unveil Week 1 depth chart

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have released their depth chart for tomorrow’s matchup in Edmonton against the Elks.

Offensive lineman Philip Blake will miss Sunday’s game after being out of practice this week with a chest injury, Brandon Council will start at left tackle. Evan Johnson is at left guard and Logan Ferland will be lined up at right guard, a reversal of positions for the green and white guards from 2022.

Brayden Lenius is out with a lower back injury, Mitch Picton along with Samuel Emilus are the two starting Canadians in the Roughriders receiving group.

C.J Reavis will replace Derrick Moncrief at the strong-side linebacker position this week.

Mason Fine is listed as the backup quarterback with Shea Patterson behind him on the depth chart.

Some new additions to Canadian Football League (CFL) rosters this season include Designated Americans (DA) and Designated Nationalized Americans.

According to the league, a DA is a non-Starting American player who may play on all special teams. During regular offensive or defensive possessions, he may only replace an American player on the field.

On offence, Frankie Hickson is listed as a DA.

On the defensive side of the ball, Miles Brown and Bryan Cox Jr. have been appointed DA.

Derel Walker appears on the Roughriders depth chart as Designated Nationalized American.

The league says  a designated Nationalized American player can replace a designated National player and his backups for up to 23 snaps.

After the first play on his side of the ball, this player may enter the game for any American player and play the remainder of the game and/or play in place of the designated National player or his backups for up to 23 snaps.
