Regina Police reports 11 more drug overdoses in May

Eleven more people died due to drug overdoses in Regina, according to the Regina Board of Police Commissioners monthly statistics report.

The deaths bring Regina’s total to 66 in 2023, the most through five months the city has ever seen.

In May, there were 279 drug overdose occurrences, with 66 per cent happening in Regina’s central area.

Looking province-wide, there have been 222 suspected and confirmed drug-related deaths.

Of the 222, only 41 have been confirmed so far in 2023

If this rate keeps up, Saskatchewan is on pace to see 532 drug-related deaths, which would be the most the province has seen in the last eight years.
