Roughriders release WR Derel Walker

 

With a crowded wide receiver group, the Saskatchewan Roughriders have cleared some space as the team released Derel Walker on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old joined the Roughriders this past off-season. He played in the Roughriders season opener against Edmonton and picked up three catches for 28 yards and a touchdown in Saskatchewan’s 17-13 win over the Elks.

He has been sidelined with a injury since Week 2 was placed on the six-game injured list.

Prior to joining the green and white, Walker had two stints with Edmonton (2015-18) & (2021-22). and one season with Toronto (2019).

Tevin Jones has replaced Walker at receiver and has emerged as one of the league leaders at receiver, Jones is fourth overall in receiving yards (563) and is tied at fourth in receptions (38).

Saskatchewan is also expecting to get Canadian Kian Schaffer-Baker off the injured list in the near future as he’s close to fully recovering from off-season hip injury.
