Fines handed out to an RM, a business and two landowners

Fines have been handed out for the illegal disposal, burning, and disposal of demolition waste.

This happened in the RM of Wheatlands in December of 2022.  The RM itself, Morsky Industrial Services and Parkbeg-area landowners Dale Young and Aaron Lambert were all charged.

All of them plead guilty to charges under the Environmental Management and Protection Act. The total in fines for all of the parties involved worked out to $70,000.

All of this comes from a tip from the public about unlawful burning near Parkbeg.

Contractors had demolished several homes in Parkbeg, and the material taken to two different pits. In one case, the contents of the pit was burned including asphalt shingles, painted lumber and other waste.

Construction and demolition waste, other than clean wood, is illegal to burn because of the dangerous pollutants they emit and the contamination they leave behind.

Following guilty pleas, the RM of Wheatlands, Morsky Industrial Services and Dale Young were each fined $21,000. Aaron Lambert was fined $7,000. All the money will go to the province’s Impacted Sites Fund.
