Rams looking to spoil Huskies home opener.

For the second straight week, the University of Regina (U of R) Rams are facing a tough test on the gridiron.

The Rams will head down Highway #11 for a provincial battle against the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.

Last week, the University of Regina lost their season opener to the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds, with a final score of 25-10. The Rams limited the Thunderbirds to one touchdown, but with six field goals to none, UBC walked away from Mosaic Stadium with the win.

Rams quarterback Noah Pelletier joined the SportsCage earlier this week and said the matchup against the Thunderbirds gave the green and gold plenty to think about.

“It’s definitely a reflection week, we had to reflect that after the game.”

Against UBC, Pelletier struggled through the first half before he was replaced in the third quarter by Bryden O’Flaherty.

Pelletier said one area of his game he’s looking to improve is his decision-making.

“I kind of rushed decisions, ” said the Rams QB, adding he was looking to be more poised when he’s under centre.

“Just being more calm back there, letting the play develop, and yeah, letting my decisions come later. “

Last week, Pelletier ended with 12/28 for 138 passing yards with a rushing touchdown against UBC.

The Rams will face the Huskies, who picked up a come-from-behind 30-27 win against the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg last week.

Pelletier is excited about competing in a lively crowd at Griffiths Stadium in the Huskies home opener.

“Going up to Saskatoon is going to be good. I know there are going to be lots of fans out there, we always love this game. “

A season removed from a Hardy Cup championship and an appearance in the Vanier Cup, Pelletier expects the Huskies defence to be a strong force again.

“They didn’t lose a whole lot on defence, they had a really great defence last year, so we’re excited to go up against them again.”

The Ram QB also has a lot of faith in his squad.

“I know we also have a super strong team going into this game, we’re confident going into it, definitely should be a good one.”
