Roughrider volunteers come through for Lights Out night

The Saskatchewan Roughriders will be taking on the Edmonton Elks Friday night (Sept 15th) at Mosaic Stadium, which means it’ll be a lights out theme, sponsored by NexGen Energy.

What the Roughrider staff wasn’t expecting was how the green light-up glasses would arrive. We’re talking THOUSANDS of glasses for fans.

“They came unassembled with the batteries,” explained Seth Strankman of the Saskatchewan Roughriders. “We want to give a big shout out the volunteers who came to help put the batteries in these so that it’s easy for fans to come to the gate (and) just grab them, turn on the lights, and be a part of the show.”

In all, volunteers had to put batteries in over six thousand light-up glasses! Situations like this highlight why volunteers are so vital in our world, not just for our favourite football team. Friday’s game kicks off at 7:30 against the Elks. Fans are encouraged to get there early to witness a DJ battle at the party in the park and to be one of the first seven thousand fans to get a pair of the light-up glasses just before the entire stadium goes dark. Halftime entertainment will be provided by Regina-born artist Tesher.
