Rams will try and rebound against the Dinos

The University of Regina Rams (0-2) will be searching for their first win of the 2023 season when they host the University of Calgary Dinos (0-2) at Mosaic Stadium.

It has been a tough start for the Rams, meeting the top two teams in the Canada West Football Conference, the UBC Thunderbirds and the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.

Last week, in Saskatoon, the Huskies dominated the Rams on their way to a 40-6 win.

Rams head coach Mark McConkey felt the Rams couldn’t slow down the Huskies last week. “We weren’t ready to play, the game got out of hand, obviously 21-0 halfway through the first quarter, nothing we could do on offence, nothing on defence helped. “

McConkey adds the green and gold are ready to put last week’s game behind them.

“We’ve moved on, ready for Calgary, got a chance to respond here and got a chance to put us back in the mix.”

McConkey pointed out that the Rams couldn’t slow down the Huskies last week.

“We weren’t ready to play, the game got out of hand, obviously 21-0 halfway through the first quarter, nothing we could do on offence, nothing on defence helped. “

With only two touchdowns in two games, the Rams head coach says it’s been a slow start for the offence.

“We just haven’t played up to our standard and expectations, at the end of the day we got to get better and that’s both sides of the ball, but especially offence, we got to do a better job, making plays, too many missed blocks, too many errant throws, too many drops, it’s a combination, everyone is really chipping in here.”

With Saturday’s clash between the Rams and Dinos marking the only time the two teams will meet in the 2023 regular season, McConkey is treating this game as a playoff game.

“We only play Calgary once, we only Alberta once, so we got to make sure we take care of these games, if we do finish tied in the standings at the end of the year, it goes to head-to-head, so these next few games are going to be really important for us.”

Like the Rams, the Dinos have dropped their first two games. They opened with losses to the University of Alberta Golden Bears and UBC.

Coverage of the Rams and Dinos game on 620 CKRM on Saturday begins with the pre-game show at 1:45. Sean Kleisinger will have the opening kickoff at 2:00.
