Police operation leads to man facing sexual assault and firearm charges

A 38-year-old man faces multiple charges after a police operation led to his arrest Wednesday evening.

At 6:20 p.m., the Regina Police Service searched a residence in the 4700 Block of 4th Avenue for a suspect who was involved in a recent sexual assault and had firearms.

The suspect attempted to flee the residence but was apprehended by members of the canine unit.

While searching the residence, police found an assault rifle, a semi-automatic firearm, and ammunition and magazines for both guns.

The 38-year-old was charged with sexual assault, two counts of firearm possession and careless firearm storage, and various charges related to the suspect breaking a probation order.

The man made his first court appearance on Thursday in Regina Provincial Court.
