The province grew by 8,567 people in the most recent quarterly population estimates from Statistics Canada.
There are now, as of July 1, 1,209,107 people calling Saskatchewan home.
That’s a growth of 2.6 per cent year over year, giving Saskatchewan the eighth highest population bump among the 10 provinces.
Canada’s population topped 40 million for the first time in the nation’s history, a 2.9 year over year jump.
StatsCan said seven provinces saw their population increase at rates never observed since comparable data exists. Alberta, in particular, experienced the highest jump at 4 per cent among the provinces and territories, with the highest net interprovincial gains ever recorded since comparable data is available over 50 years ago.
StatsCan said that close to 98 per cent of the growth in the population is from net international migration year over year.
