Rams toppled by Golden Bears 46-27

The University of Regina Rams (1-4) were defeated by the University Golden Bears 46-27 (4-1) in Edmonton on Friday night.

Regina got off to solid start with a touchdown run by QB Noah Pelletier to give the Rams the early lead.

The tide turned in Alberta’s favour around half-time with a 72-yard run by Matthew Peterson for the Golden Bears first touchdown of the game. On the ensuing drive, Alberta DB Mack Bannatyne recorded a pick six for the Golden Bears to up 17-7.

On the first play of the second half, Peterson had a 75-yard touchdown to give Alberta a 24-8 advantage.

The Golden Bears grabbed another pair of touchdowns and led by as much as 28 points in the final quarter before the Rams attempted a comeback.

WR D’Sean Mimbs hauled in a 13-yard touchdown followed up by another touchdown run by Pelletier.

With the Rams down by eight, they attempted an onside kick, but the Golden Bears recovered and ran it back to end any hopes of a Regina rally.

Rams QB Owen Sieben was 25/36 for 266 passing yard with a touchdown.

Mimbs became the first Rams player since 2019 to have ten catches in a game and added 119 yards.

RB Olivier Savard had a career-high 106 rushing yards.

Regina finished the game with 532 yards on offence.

The Rams will now head into their bye week, with a big home game against the University of Manitoba Bisons looming in the distance on October 14.

Both teams are tied for the final playoff spot, with the Bisons holding the tie-breaker with their win last week.
