Saturday’s Legends Night for the Saskatchewan Roughriders will pay homage to the biggest legend of them all.
As Rider Nation and the Canadian Football community continue to mourn the loss of George Reed, the Roughriders along with support from the Reed family have begun preparations for the celebration of his life.
Shortly before kickoff, Reed will be honoured in a pre-game ceremony. Fans are asked to be in their seats by 4:50 to say goodbye to a special member of Roughrider history.
Besides his efforts on the field, Reed will be remembered for his countless contributions to the community and province. The George Reed Foundation and the Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation announced the partnership to create the George Reed Legacy Fund. Supporting the Special Olympics Saskatchewan and Mother Teresa Middle School, the Legacy Fund will take on the work of the George Reed Foundation and continue Reed’s lasting legacy in the province.
The football club will be hosting guests from the Special Olympics Saskatchewan and Mother Teresa Middle School at this week’s game.
Also on Saturday, the Roughriders will be wearing George Reed decals on their helmets and on their jerseys. Players, coaches and staff will wear ‘Remembering 34” shirts and bunnyhugs on the sidelines during the pregame.
