Saskatchewan cattle prices lost a little more momentum this past week, according to the latest Cattle Market Update issued by Canfax.

Provincial Cattle Specialist Fonda Froats says both feeder steer and heifer prices were lower for the week ending October 13th compared to the previous week.

Feeder steer prices ranged from $512.64 per cwt in the 300-400lb category down to $305.50 in the 900+lb category. Most of the steer weight classes were down with the exception of the 300-400lb ($0.58 increase week-over-week) and 700-800lb ($0.40) categories.

Feeder heifers ranged from $413.75 per cwt in the 300-400lb category down to $287.00 in the 800+lb category. The lone category to have a week-over-week increase was the 700-800lb heifers at $1.17 per cwt.

Similar to last week, she says prices were on a seasonal decline as a result of more cattle entering the market.

A small decrease in the number of cattle sold at auction in the province was noted by Canfax. There were 21,941 head sold, down from 23,704 head marketed the previous week.

Froats says Alberta fed steer prices were up compared to the previous week. D2 cows increased on average $1.82 per cwt from the previous week to average $132.43 per cwt. D3 slaughter cows were up $3.11 per cwt over the prior week, ending the week at an average price of $121.33 per cwt.
