The Town of Maple Creek says a water main break caused a depressurization of its water distribution system, raising concerns about the quality of the drinking water.
The issue was isolated and is under repair.
The town says in an email that the Water Security Agency issued the advisory, which is to be in place until the repair is completed and sampling indicates the water is safe to use.
An emergency alert went out across the province in the afternoon, warning that everyone in the town of 2,100 people should the boil water for at least one minute before drinking it, washing fruits and vegetables and brushing teeth.
Kerrie Chabot, the town’s deputy chief administrative officer, says the alert was sent out to ensure the warning would reach everyone in the community and those who may be visiting.
