It seems the rumour mill got something right.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders are confirming Marc Mueller and Kent Maugeri will be joining Head Coach Corey Mace’s staff.

It will be a home-coming for Marc Mueller, who was born in Regina. For the last ten years he worked his way up through the Calgary Stampeders coaching staff starting as a defensive assistant. He was the running back’s coach, then the quarterback’s coach, winning two Grey Cups with the Stamps. Mueller will be the Roughriders Offensive Coordinator.

“I am thrilled to be able to bring Marc back home to Saskatchewan as the offensive coordinator,” said Mace. “He was an instrumental part of my process, and his time spent on both sides of the ball learning from the likes of John Hufnagel, Dave Dickenson and Ryan Dinwiddie make him the perfect person to take on this role. I am excited for what he will add to the Rider offence and our organization.” 

Mueller is the grandson of Rider legend Ron Lancaster, and the son of Larry Mueller, who was the Roughriders’ Assistant General Manager from 1989 to 1992. 

Kent Maugeri is returning to be the Special Teams Coach. He has been with the Riders for eight years, and the 2024 Season will be his ninth year with the team. Maugeri started out as the Quality Control Coach in 2016, advanced to be the team’s running back’s coach in 2019, and was named Special Teams Coach in 2020. He was named Special Teams Coordinator in 2022.

“Kent has done a phenomenal job in his eight seasons with the Roughriders, growing relationships and working hands on with the team roster,” said Mace. “His colleagues and players speak highly of him, and his philosophies align with my vision for how I want our team to play. I’m elated to keep him in Saskatchewan and watch him lead our special teams unit.” 

Both Mueller and Maugeri have signed two year contracts with the club.
