Sask Teachers Say “Job Action” is “Inevitable”

Talks aimed at a new contract for teachers in Saskatchewan have come to an end, with no new deal. The Saskatchewan Teachers Federation and the the Government-Trustee Bargaining Committee were bargaining with the help of the Conciliation Board in an attempt to reach a deal.

In a statement, the STF says the government did not move from its position last May, and the teachers say the government is refusing to discuss some issues teachers want to bargain. The STF was grateful to the negotiators on the government side, but said “The government’s intransigence has put them in an impossible position.”

The Conciliation Board will issue a report on the talks, and the teachers will decide then what action will need to be take.

The teachers say “The Government of Saskatchewan has now set a course that makes job action by teachers – and the disruption that comes with it – virtually inevitable.”

The teachers are asking for the public to contact their local MLA and Education Minister Jeremy Cockerill to urge the government to bargain in good faith.
