It’s Good: K Brett Lauther and Saskatchewan Roughriders agree on long-term extension

Brett Lauther has signed a long-term deal with the Saskatchewan Roughriders as the green and white announced a three-year contract extension for the kicker on Monday.

Lauther (6’1-195) has spent the last five seasons in Saskatchewan (2018-23). During that span, has made 203 of 242 field-goal attempts, 130 of 142 converts and 14 special teams tackles. He was named a CFL Western All-Star in 2018 and was the Roughriders nominee for the Most Outstanding Canadian that same season. He has been nominated as Saskatchewan’s Most Outstanding Special Teams Player on a pair of occasions (2018,2021).

The 33-year-old is among the leaders in several kicking categories in franchise history. His accuracy rate of 83.9% is the best for a Roughriders kicker with at least 100 attempts. All-time, Lauther is third among Roughriders kickers in field goals made (203) behind Ridgway (574) and Paul McCallum (368) and is fifth all-time in team scoring (755 points).

In November, the Truro, Nova Scotia product was named the 2023 recipient of the Tom Pate Memorial Award, which is presented each year to a CFL Players’ Association member who demonstrates supreme sportsmanship and exemplary contributions to his team and his community.

One of the community initiatives, Lauther is involved with, the Saskatchewan Roughriders Foundation Winter Classic, is set for its second edition for Saturday February 3rd in Saskatoon.
