The Regina Pats opened up their road trip with a 6-1 loss to Lethbridge on Friday night.
Sam Ormeba picked up the only goal for the Pats, his 11th on the season.
Sean Tschigerl had three points on the night (2G-1A) to lead the Hurricanes, Leo Braillard, Brayden Edwards, Miguel Marques, and Noah Chadwick also chipped in with goals for Lethbridge.
Kelton Pyne had 24 saves and allowed four goals, before Ewan Huet came in and made 10 saves allowed two goals.
Pats Captain Tanner Howe picked up an assist for Regina, after taking part in the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game earlier this week in Moncton, N.B.
Pats Head Coach Brad Herauf was disappointed with the loss.
“I thought we had spurts where we were pretty good, but we didn’t have enough guys going tonight, we had too many guys blowing snow, fake body checking, fake shot blocking and their goalie was better than ours tonight.”
Regina killed off three of the four Hurricane power play attempts, Herauf says the Pats penalty kill has adjusted with the changes that was made at the beginning of the month.
“Getting the system, getting our guys acclaimed on how we’re going to do things here and then get our pressure points going. I thought we had some uncertainty in our structure, just knowing what’s going on, having new guys there, but I thought we’ve done a nice job adjusting here.”
The Pats lost some ground in the playoff race with Prince Albert and Calgary picking up wins on Friday night. Regina trails both teams by six points for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
On Sunday, the Pats will finish off their two-game trek through Alberta against the Hitmen in Calgary.
