The Regina Pats kicked off their six-game U.S. road trip with a 5-2 loss to the Spokane Chiefs on Friday night.
Regina took an early lead in the opening 10 minutes of the game, with Tye Spencer and Braxton Whitehead finding the back of the net for the Pats.
However, the Chiefs narrowed the gap to one goal by the end of the first period and equalized the score at 2-2 in the second.
In the third period, Spokane surged ahead with a go-ahead goal, part of a three-goal onslaught in the final frame, sealing their victory with five unanswered goals.
Whitehead finished the game with a pair of points (1G-1A), while Spencer’s marker was his team-leading 10th power-play goal of the season. Tanner Howe also chipped in with two helpers, and Ewan Huet made 31 saves in the loss.
The Pats will look to bounce back as they continue their nine-day U.S. trip on Saturday, February 24.
They’re set to face the Tri-City Americans in Kennewick, Washington, with puck drop scheduled for 8:05 p.m. Saskatchewan time.
