For the first time since she was appointed to the post, the Governor General Mary Simon will be paying a visit to Saskatchewan.
The viceregal was sworn in July 26th 2021. Ms. Simon gained national and international recognition for her work on Arctic and Indigenous issues and for her efforts in advocating for Inuit rights, youth and culture prior to her appointment as Governor General.
The Governor General will arrive in Saskatchewan Monday Morning, and will be met at the provincial legislature by premier Scott Moe, Lieutenant Governor Russ Mirasty, and other government officials at 11:30am. Members of the public who would like to watch should be in place near the legislature before 11:15am.
“Saskatchewan is honoured to welcome Her Excellency to our province for her first official visit,” Premier Scott Moe said in a statement. “Her Excellency demonstrates a deep commitment to promoting unity and understanding among all Canadians, a sentiment which echoes our provincial motto ‘From Many Peoples Strength.’ I join with all of Saskatchewan in wishing Her Excellency a wonderful visit to our province.”
The Governor General will inspect an honour guard of troops of RCMP’s Depot Division as part of the arrival ceremony.
After that, the Governor General will head to Government House, where there will be a brief arrival ceremony, along with the Governor General signing the guest book inside the museum.
There will be a short reception before a private lunch between the Lieutenant Governor and the Governor General.
At 530pm Monday evening there will be an official reception for the Governor General in the Harry Newlands Ballroom at Government House.
