Why does bread have to be so darn tasty? This is a question I ask myself all the time as I consume way to much of it. Fresh bread, buns, cinnamon buns, and donuts are just the best and I can safely say I’d be MUCH thinner if I didn’t eat so much of it…but it’s hard to say no sometimes.
When it comes to bread, France ranks as one of the best known countries for their baguettes, homemade rolls, and fresh buns. A bakery in a suburb of Paris has claimed the Guinness World Record for the largest baguette ever made. Several bakers teamed up to accomplish the feat, which included 900 kilograms of flour, 60 litres of water, 1.2 kilograms of salt, and 1.2 kilograms of yeast. The baguette grew in length to 461 feet, surpassing the previous record of 435 feet set in 2019 in Italy. In order to acquire the world record, bakers were required to make sure the baguette was at least five centimetres thick, which was also achieved.
What do you do with a 461 foot baguette after? My taste buds say I should be getting it but my brain and waist both say nooooo! Instead, it went to a much more deserving group of people. Pieces of the baguette were handed out to onlookers and the rest was donated to the homeless.
We already know the France has the best wine, cheese, crepes, and kissers in the world, but they’ve now reaffirmed their dominance in bread and baguette baking.
I’m booking my plane ticket now.
