On the afternoon of Sunday May 12th just before 2pm – police were called to a home on the 4800 block of Sherwood drive. The call was for reports of an injured man. Authorities rushed to the scene and the man was transported to hospital where he died of his injuries.
At 2:30pm a substantial police presence was in the area. Police tape now cordoned off a yard where a car sat in a driveway – it’s tire removed – with it being alleged the victim may have been changing a tire when they were approached. Social media accounts reporting a loud “bang” being heard in the area just prior to 2pm. Another social media post reportedly from a witness to the crime read “Three guys walked by a guy changing his tire, and one of them shot him”. At 3pm The Shell Station across the street from the scene – also held a substantial police presence.
The official report from Regina Police Services has not released the identity of the victim or additional details surrounding the incident and subsequent investigation. As of 3:00 am Monday morning – the police tape remained, and two RPS vehicles remained outside of the home.
Authorities have not officially charged anyone in connection with the incident. Circumstances surrounding the man’s death and subsequent accounts posted to social media do seem to point this in the direction of the first homicide to happen in Regina this year.
Anyone who has information that could assist police in this investigation is asked to contact the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500 or Regina Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
