SJHL completes 2024 edition of annual Prospects Draft

A new crop of prospects were welcomed into the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League on Tuesday as the league held its 2024 SJHL Prospects Draft.

The draft saw 68 total players selected by the twelve member clubs with two rounds of selections of 2009-born players, followed by six rounds of selections of 2008-born players.

“We would like to welcome all the players and their families to the SJHL, our campaign is Stay Here: Play Here, and certainly we had a great day in terms of the draft and we wish you all the best of luck on your hockey journeys,” SJHL commissioner Kyle McIntyre commented after the draft.

The La Ronge Ice Wolves were first on the clock, in the 2009-born draft and used the pick to select Prince Albert U15 AA Pirates forward Declan Borthwick.

Meanwhile, the Battlefords North Stars acquired the number one overall selection of the 2008-portion of the draft and used the selection on forward and Martensville product Easton Woytiuk of the Martensville 15AA Marauders.

The league will now shift to scheduling later this week for the 2024/25 regular season which is slated to begin September 20th.
