Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for Regina

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a “Severe Thunderstorm Watch” that not only includes Regina, it covers a good chunk of Saskatchewan. The weather alert stretches from Battlefords south east towards Estevan and Weyburn. Moose Jaw, Regina Swift Current and many more communities could see severe thunderstorms this evening.

In Regina, the thunderstorms could begin around 6:00 pm, with a 60 percent chance of precipitation until midnight.

This could have an impact on the Saskatchewan Roughriders, who are hosting their first home game of the season against the Hamilton Tiger Cats.

Kick off is at 5 o’clock, about an hour before the weather is expected to worsen.

This type of storm is expected to generate strong winds, hail, lightning and potential heavy downpours. The storm system is expected to move through Saskatchewan, and make its way into Manitoba after midnight.

A “Severe Thunderstorm Watch” is issued when condition are favorable for this type of weather. It becomes a “Severe Thunderstorm Warning” when this type of weather is imminent, or already occurring.
