We all have a favourite Saskatchewan Roughrider, current or retired. Each year you may end up with a new fav! Some of you have a real close relationship with team members and some of us may just know the guys to see them on the field. Perhaps the days of players making Saskatchewan their home in the off season and as a full time resident are returning.
Today’s Saskatchewan Roughrider game at Mosaic Stadium is all about the Throwback! The play on the “Eras” theme is geared mostly toward the wildly popular Taylor Swift tour. However, it also reflects the years of appreciation toward the club. Some of those decades were less than favourable. The Grey Cup appearance few and far between. Nonetheless, we were there cheering on the likes of Ken Clark, Joe Adams, Stu Fraser, Tom Burgess and countless others. In the stands, fans were wearing their home matched green and white gear, the occasional Rider ball cap but mostly it was just fans cheering on the team! My, my how things have changed. Retro uniforms, t-shirts and flags for the fans, a stadium filled with jerseys. And this game, sunglasses branded with the Saskatchewan Roughrider logo, on sale!! You probably have a closet filled with Rider wear. Maybe that’s all you ever do wear!
Seth Strankman has become a regular with #GoodMorningSaskatchewan joining Cody & I for some insight into the game. I must add it is also the Purolator #TackleHunger game. So come with some extra cash to donate OR some non-perishable food items.
The photo below was from a Mark Greschner project. He did this memorable photo shoot as the Saskatchewan Roughrider Football Club moved from Taylor Field over to Mosaic Stadium 2.0. It was a wonderful experience, because you could show your personality as a fan. Family photos, props, maybe even a wedding type photo have popped up in social media over time. A number of years ago the Roughrider organization had a reunion and the shoulder pads I’m wearing were those of Roger Goree’s. My sister and I had purchased them at the event. I still have them. Rhett Dawson, his wife and the Gorees from Sugarland, Texas were at our table. On game day, Roger even made it over to our section, 26, to say hello. These are the times we will always cherish when it comes to the Green & White over the years of being season ticket holders.
