Funnel clouds possible in parts of Saskatchewan today

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued special weather advisories for much of east central and southeast Saskatchewan today indicating funnel clouds may be possible today.

The weather office says conditions are favourable for the development of funnel clouds, however they emphasize that these clouds are created by a weak rotation under fast growing clouds or thunderstorms. Weather experts say this weak rotation is not a real danger near the ground.

There is a chance that these funnel clouds could become a weak land spout tornado which Environment Canada explains is not destructive but can still be dangerous.

Environment Canada will upgrade these weather advisories to watches and warnings if these weather systems become more intense.
