Early Thursday morning, chaos erupted in the heart of Regina as multiple garbage cans burst into flames along Scarth Street Mall. Regina Fire & Protective Services responded, extinguishing five blazing trash containers lining the popular walking mall and another in nearby Victoria Park.
Regina Fire officials, upon assessing the scene, confirmed that all fires were deliberately ignited. The Fire Marshal’s office has initiated an investigation, collaborating closely with the Regina Police Service to apprehend those responsible for the reckless acts.
“Regina Fire & Protective Services responded to the Scarth Street walking mall just after 6 this morning and extinguished 5 trash container fires along the mall and 1 in Victoria Park,” stated a release from Regina Fire Services delivered late Thursday afternoon.. “The investigation has determined that all the fires were deliberately set, and we have notified the Regina Police Service to proceed with their investigation through normal channels.”
This incident marks a troubling trend in Regina, where intentional fires have become a recurring issue over the past six months. Authorities are requesting any businesses in the vicinity of Scarth Street Mall to review their security footage for any potential leads that could aid in identifying the perpetrators.
