Pats Fill Out Coaching and Management Positions

Some familiar faces are returning to the Regina Pats ahead of training camp for the 2024-2025 Season.

Regina Pats VP, Hockey Operations and General Manager Alan Millar announced Dale Derkatch will be returning to regiment as Assistant General Manager, and Ryan Smith will join the club as an Associate Head Coach.

Derkatch has extensive scouting experience as an amateur scout, and travelling scout for several NHL Clubs.

Of course people will remember Derkatch as a player with with Pats between 1981 and 1985, and was also head coach of the team from 2008 to 2009.

Dale Derkatch is returning to the Pats as Assistant General Manager.

“Dale Derkatch brings great experience to our group and will be involved in all hockey decisions with the hockey club, while also leading our player personnel and scouting departments,” Allan Millar explained.

Ryan Smith was both an Associate Head Coach and Head Coach for the Spokane Chiefs over the last four seasons.

Ryan Smith, the former coach of the Spokane Chiefs is joining the Regina Pats as an Associate Coach.

Before that , Smith was an Assistant Coach with the Medicine Hat Tigers from 2018-2020, and as both an Associate Head Coach and Assistant Coach with the Swift Current Broncos from 2015-2018, winning a WHL championship with the Broncos in 2018.

“Ryan Smith is an experienced coach who will compliment our coaching staff very well, and also brings championship experience to our bench,” Millar said.

The Team also announced Max Paddock as Goalie Coach and Cole Stevens as Athletic Therapist.

Paddock was a goalie with the Pats from 2016-2020, backstopping the Pats to the Memorial Cup Final where the Brandon, Manitoba product was named to the 2018 CHL Memorial Cup All-Star Team.

In addition, Dale McMullin has signed a new contract as Head Scout.

“This is an exciting day for the Regina Pats Hockey Club,” Millar said. “We are very pleased to add Dale, Ryan, Max, Cole to our team, and have Dale McMullin remain with the club.”
