Gear Up for Saskatchewan’s Hunting Season: Essential Licences, Guides, and Tips for 2024

As the eagerly anticipated hunting season approaches in Saskatchewan, it’s time for hunters to start preparing. The first step is to purchase the necessary hunting licenses. Big Game Draw and regular licenses are available for purchase beginning August 1, with the quota-limited antlerless mule deer licenses available on a first-come, first-served basis starting August 15.

Hunters can purchase licenses through several convenient methods: online via the Hunting, Angling and Trapping License system, 24/7; in person at Government of Saskatchewan field offices with front counter service, select provincial park offices, and from any Saskatchewan hunting license issuer; or by phone at 1-855-848-4773 (a credit card is required). Ensure you have your HAL identification number or any other identification number previously added to your HAL account when purchasing.

Additionally, the Saskatchewan Hunters Guide and the new standalone Saskatchewan Trappers Guide are essential resources for hunters and trappers alike. These guides provide comprehensive lists of season dates, important information on regulations, licenses, and fees, and highlights of new opportunities for 2024, including expanded dark goose hunting. The guides can be downloaded from saskatchewan.ca/hunting or picked up at Government of Saskatchewan field offices, select retailers, and some provincial parks.

For those planning to hunt on private lands, it’s important to remember that approximately 85% of the land in southern Saskatchewan is privately owned or controlled.

Hunters must obtain consent from landowners before entering and hunting on their property. This consent can be given in writing, orally, or through signage and can be sought and provided in person, by phone, or through email.
