Nearly 1200 Pounds of Cannabis Seized in Road Side Stop

Police uncovered 1,184 pounds of cannabis in a traffic stop just east of Indian Head.

Monday, the Highway Patrol pulled over a semi-trailer unit headed from BC to Ontario. The Highway Patrol called in RCMP members from Indian Head for some help.

When they checked the trailer, police uncovered 1,184 pounds of dried cannabis on four pallets.

“It goes without saying that this is a significant amount of cannabis,” says A/Commr. Rhonda Blackmore, commanding officer of Saskatchewan RCMP. “We want to remind the public that although cannabis is legal to use, there are still parameters around the substance, including a public possession limit. In this case, illegal cannabis was being transported across the country to be sold from a non-licensed dealer. This violates product safety and quality control requirements, putting the public’s health and wellbeing at risk, in addition to the fact its illegal.”

The 40 year old driver of the truck is from Hamilton, Ontario. He is facing two charges at this point:

  • one count, possession for the purpose of distributing, Section 9(2), Cannabis Act;
  • one count, possession of unstamped cannabis product, Section 158.11 (1), Excise Act.

He will be back in court in Indian Head in October.
