College of Notre Dame Appoints New Director of Female Hockey

Athol Murray College of Notre Dame announced the appointment of Sarah (Howald) Hodges as its new Female Hockey Coordinator. A distinguished Notre Dame alumna and former standout student-athlete, Hodges brings a wealth of experience to the role, having most recently served as the founder and Head Coach for Women’s Hockey at the University of Regina.

The selection of Hodges follows an exhaustive search to find a leader who can build on Notre Dame’s esteemed tradition of female hockey excellence. Wade Klippenstein, Director of Hockey Development at Notre Dame, expressed enthusiasm for the hire. “Coach Hodges brings the perfect blend of experience, professionalism, and passion to Notre Dame. Our student-athletes will immediately benefit from her strong history with the game of hockey and the boarding school lifestyle,” Klippenstein stated.

Hodges’ journey with hockey began at Notre Dame, where she made a significant impact as a student-athlete. Her remarkable career continued at Dartmouth University, where she earned all-Ivy designations in both hockey and track and field. Following her playing career, Hodges made history as the first Head Coach for Women’s Hockey at the University of Regina. She has also held roles coaching provincial and national women’s hockey teams, including the Canadian U-18 Women’s team.

The appointment of Hodges is seen as a pivotal move in reinforcing Notre Dame’s commitment to nurturing female hockey talent. Her extensive background and proven track record are expected to drive the program forward and provide invaluable mentorship to the next generation of hockey players.

Hodges will officially take on her new role at Athol Murray College of Notre Dame beginning next month.
