Regina has marked its fourth homicide of 2024 following the death of a woman on Friday, August 23. What began as a routine call for service escalated into a major investigation, culminating in the arrest of 39-year-old Kristopher Kyle Soby on charges of second-degree murder.
Around 10:00 p.m. on Friday, Regina police were dispatched to a residence on the 1000 block of King Street. EMS personnel on the scene informed officers that an adult male, later identified as Soby, was inside the home. Police entered the residence and found the male, who had sustained non-life-threatening injuries prior to their arrival.
More troubling, however, was the discovery of an unresponsive woman inside the home. Despite the efforts of emergency medical services, the woman was declared dead on the scene, prompting a death investigation.
The investigation quickly became a homicide case, with the involvement of the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, Regina Police Service (RPS) Major Crimes Unit, and RPS Forensic Identification Unit.
Soby is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Monday, August 26, 2024, at 9:30 a.m.
