Saskatchewan Roughriders’ defensive lineman Miles Brown gave his side of the story about his hit on Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ quarterback Zach Collaros.
“Not at all did I mean to try to hurt him and intend to hit him in the head,” Brown said.
“I genuinely believe I hit him in his chest. I turned my head away from him so I didn’t hit him in the head. And it’s a football play, and sometimes it happens.”
The CFL decided to fine Brown for his high hit on Collaros.
It’s Brown’s third year with the Riders. He signed with the team in 2022 after spending a few seasons in the NFL.
Bombers president Wade Miller made critical comments to Winnipeg Free Press reporter Jeff Hamilton after the game. Miller felt Brown should have gotten ejected.
“It’s very clear he doesn’t know me. And I’m just gonna have to leave it at that,” Brown said.
Riders head coach Corey Mace defended Brown when he was asked about the high hit on Collaros.
“Miles is not a dirty player; he plays a physical game, and that’s what this is,” Mace said.
“When it is all said and done, I know his intentions were never to hurt anybody.”
Collaros has been taking first team reps during Winnipeg’s preparations in playing against the Riders.
Brown has not had the chance to talk with Collaros yet, but he is happy that he is back on the field.
