“Langenburg Event” to be commemorated on coin

The Royal Canadian Mint has released a special collector coin honouring the the 50th anniversary of a UFO sighting near Langenburg, SK. The sighting became known at the “Langenburg Event” on September 1st, 1974 after a farmer spotted not one, but five unusual flying objects.

A young farmer named Edwin Fuhr was out swathing that morning when he spotted five very unusual objects floating above a nearby slough. According to the Langenburg town history webpage, Fuhr thought it was a prank that someone was playing on him until all five disk-like objects took off into the sky at incredible speed. As the story goes, there was a strange grey vapour that was briefly left behind which made Fuhr realize this was no joke. The mysterious ships left five circles on the ground and much of the crop in the vicinity of the sighting was completely flattened. To this day the event remains unexplained and Fuhr estimates he had done at least ten thousand interviews regarding the incident.

In hour of the strange event, The Royal Canadian Mint will be releasing a special coin that shows Fuhr in his field overlooking five hovering UFO’s near the slough. What makes this coin even more unique is that it will glow in the dark. 6,500 one ounce silver coins have been minted and are now available for purchase on the Mint website.
