MIDALE – A semi hauling a livestock trailer rolled over southeast of Midale on Sept. 21, resulting in injuries to the driver and the death of 22 cattle.
The Estevan RCMP and other emergency crews received a report of the incident at approximately 8 a.m. that day. Officers immediately responded.
According to a news release from the Saskatchewan RCMP sent to the Mercury and SaskToday late Wednesday morning, the driver of the semi was taken to hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
The semi was hauling approximately 100 cattle. The RCMP said 22 died as a result of the incident. The Estevan RCMP detachment engaged veterinary care for the cattle.
Local ranchers assisted with herding the surviving cattle, who were transported to safety.
The RCMP says an investigation is ongoing.
