Shots fired at motorist who stopped to help a “stranded vehicle”

The Saskatchewan RCMP has arrested a man in connection with an incident where shots were fired at a motorist who was attempting to assist another driver on the Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation. The investigation remains active, with authorities urging the public to stay vigilant and report any sightings of a suspect vehicle.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 25, just before 6:30 p.m., when Ahtahkakoop RCMP received a report of gunfire targeting a driver who had pulled over to help what appeared to be a stranded vehicle. The motorist was traveling along a grid road on the northern boundary of the Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation when they spotted a black Chevrolet Equinox parked at the side of the road, seemingly in need of assistance.

According to the RCMP, when the Good Samaritan approached the Equinox, the driver pointed a firearm at them and discharged it multiple times in their direction. Fortunately, the motorist was not injured in the incident and managed to leave the area unharmed.

At the time of the shooting, police believe there were three individuals inside the Chevrolet Equinox: an adult male who was driving the vehicle and two adult females. The male driver may have a tattoo above his right eye, but further descriptions of the occupants remain unclear at this stage. The vehicle’s license plate is believed to be 642 HPR, though this detail has not yet been confirmed.

The RCMP cautioned the public not to approach the Equinox or its occupants if they come across the vehicle, as the individuals involved are considered armed and dangerous, urging anyone who sees the vehicle or notices suspicious activity to contact the RCMP immediately at 310-RCMP, or to call 911 in an emergency.

In an update just after 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday night, the RCMP announced that a man had been arrested in connection with the shooting. However, no additional details about the arrest or the suspect’s identity have been released at this time. The investigation is ongoing, and police have indicated that more information will be shared as it becomes available.

For now, the Saskatchewan RCMP is closely monitoring the situation and will issue further updates if any imminent risks to public safety are identified.
