One dessert that always ranks the highest amongst those with a sweet tooth is cheesecake. There are so many varieties of cheesecake from chocolate to strawberry and cherry, just to name a few. According to Canadian Living magazine, carrot cake with cream cheese icing was the second most popular recipe they’ve published. Whether it’s a full cheesecake or just cream cheese icing, there’s no denying that we love the richness and unique flavour it gives us.
Lowville, New York is home to a Kraft-Heinz factory that makes Philadelphia Cream Cheese and is now home to a record setting cheesecake. Earlier this month, people at Kraft-Heinz banded together and made a massive cheesecake, weighing in at 15,008 pounds! The first cheesecake record was set by the same plant in 2013 at 6,900 pounds, however a group in Russia beat the record in 2017 by making a 9,347 pound cheesecake. Not to be outdone, Kraft-Heinz mobilized people in the community once again and made the 15,008 pound cheesecake for Lowville’s annual cheesecake festival, smashing…or creaming…the previous record.
Breaking it down, 13,000 pounds of cream cheese was used, 870 pounds of graham cracker crumbs, 300 pounds of sugar, and 100 pounds of butter were all needed to make the massive cake, which measured 11 feet in diameter.
After Guinness World Records documented the record and made it official, free pieces of the rich dessert were handed out to festival-goers to enjoy. Leftovers were given to area food banks.
If only the Golden Girls were still alive to finish the rest!
