Firearm charges laid after Monday incident

A 27-year-old Regina man is facing several firearms-related charges after a police response to a reported firearms offence on Retallack Street.


On Monday, at around 7:10 a.m., police were dispatched to a residence in the 1300 block of Retallack Street. Initial reports indicated the presence of firearms inside the residence. As officers arrived, they saw a man, later identified as Mervin Bear, running through a back alley while carrying what appeared to be a firearm. Bear entered another nearby house, where police later conducted a search.


Upon searching the residence, police found two firearms, several gun parts, ammunition, and knives. Mervin Bear was subsequently arrested without incident.


Bear has been charged with multiple offences, including armed robbery using a restricted firearm, possession of a weapon, careless storage of firearms, possession of an unauthorized firearm, and possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition.


The accused appeared in Provincial Court for the first time this morning.
