SASKATOON — Scott Moe promised his government would make life easier for Saskatchewan residents if the Saskatchewan Party maintains its hold of the Legislature after the elections on Monday, Oct. 28. On Tuesday, Oct. 1, Moe announced that the official campaign period begins after asking Lt. Gov. Russ Mirasty to dissolve the legislature.
In a campaign release, Moe said, “I commit to the people of this great province that a re-elected Saskatchewan Party government will make life more affordable by delivering the largest income tax reduction seen since 2008. We will do this by increasing the personal exemption, increasing the disposal exemption, increasing the child exemption and increasing the senior supplement by $500 each year for the next four years.”
He added that they would continue to index Saskatchewan income tax rates to keep up with inflation and reduce income tax. Under his government’s combined indexation, this would give a family of four an average savings of $3,400 and senior couples $3,100 in the next four years, he said, more than their opponents’ commitment to a temporary gas tax reduction.
“It’s not temporary. It will remain in place, saving every Saskatchewan person money each and every year into the future. Did you know that under the NDP, a family of four in this province began paying the provincial income tax at a family income of just over $26,150 each year? Remember that number $26,150 under an NDP government, and that’s when you started paying income tax. When our plan is fully implemented, that same family in this province will not pay provincial income tax until their combined income reaches $72,425. That’s the highest tax-free threshold in the nation,” said Moe.
At his campaign announcement in Saskatoon, Moe said, “I would say the choice for the election could never be more clear: Who will keep our economy strong and our future bright? That will be the ballot question for Saskatchewan people on Oct. 28th. That is the choice voters will have between the Saskatchewan Party and the NDP,” said Moe, interrupted by supporters chanting: four more years, in the background.
“Saskatchewan is one of the most affordable places in Canada to live. Still, Saskatchewan people are facing cost of living pressures just like everyone else in Canada. A Saskatchewan Party government will make life more affordable by reducing your income tax and making sure you keep more of the money you work hard to earn,” said Moe.
Moe said if the Saskatchewan Party is given a chance to form a government, it will continue to make Saskatchewan an affordable province in Canada for all residents who work and live here, despite inflation being felt all over the country. However, the Saskatchewan Party will announce more of its plans to help Saskatchewan families in these tough times.
“We have the lowest inflation rate, but Saskatchewan people and Saskatchewan families are feeling those cost-of-living pressures just like everyone else is across this nation, and that’s why your Saskatchewan party government delivers annually over two billion dollars in affordability measures. We deliver that year after year after year, and that’s why this year, we took the Trudeau-NDP carbon tax off your home heating bill,” said Moe.
