Roughriders’ A.J. Ouellette ready to run for Saskatchewan against B.C. Lions

For the first time in nearly two calendar months, running back A.J. Ouellette sees game action for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The Riders listed Ouellette as the starer for the game on Saturday against the B.C. Lions.

He last played on August 17, when the Roughriders hosted the Montreal Alouettes. Following the game, the team placed him on the six-game injured list after he re-aggravated a hip injury that had cost him the previous three games. Despite missing nine games, the 29-year-old’s 466 rushing yards still leads the Riders.

“What he is willing to do for his teammates to bring success to his team is exactly one of the intangibles that we love about having him here,” head coach Corey Mace said.

Quarterback Trevor Harris has only played four games with Ouellette this season due to a knee injury that forced him to miss six games.

“He’s the downhill sort of guy that in the third and fourth quarter you get tired of tackling. The thing that people don’t give A.J. enough credit for is that he is one of the best that I have ever been around in pass protection.”

Also returning to the Rider roster are offensive linemen Zack Fry and Jacob Brammer, receiver Mitchell Picton while defensive lineman Benoit Marion makes his debut in Green and White.
