‘I got to send Cody Fajardo a message’: Trevor Harris hopes Montreal Alouettes can do Riders a favour

Saskatchewan Roughriders’ quarterback Trevor Harris hopes Montreal Alouettes’ QB Cody Fajardo can do his old team a favour.

The Riders sit second in the West Division and can jump to first if the Winnipeg Blue Bombers lose to the Als in the final regular season game for both teams. If that happens and Saskatchewan beats the Calgary Stampeders on Saturday, October 26, the Green and White would host the West Final instead of the Western Semi-Final.

“I got to send ole Fajardo a message: ‘You don’t hate Saskatchewan that much, right? I mean, it wasn’t that bad when you left. Can you give us a solid and go get it?’” Harris said jokingly. “However it shakes out, it’s out of our control, we just control what we can control.”

Saskatchewan clinched a home playoff game by beating the B.C. Lions 39-8 in Week 19. Harris completed 25-of-30 passes for 271 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. Kicker Brett Lauther did not miss a field goal going 6-for-6, his longest from 53 yards.

“We need to get more touchdowns,” Harris said. “There were a couple of little mechanical issues with our execution, but I like who we’re becoming.”

Currently, the Roughriders are on a four-game winning streak which started when Saskatchewan beat the Stamps in Week 16. Prior to that, the Green and White were on a seven-game winless skid.

“During that seven-game slide — we’ve got these wristbands that say: ‘Don’t flinch,” Harris said. “No matter what the situation is, up 21, down 21, you haven’t won a game in seven weeks, no flinching. Continue to press on no matter what the situation is because we believe in who we are and who’s leading us.”

The Riders are enjoying the team’s third and final bye week while Harris believes it comes at an ideal time.

“It’s much-needed,” Harris explained. “There’s a few little nicks, bumps, bruises and whatnot that I know I need this bye week for. I’m going to take care of something that’s been bugging me for the last six weeks.”

The Roughriders host the Stampeders at Mosaic Stadium for the team’s last game of the regular season on Saturday, October 26. Countdown to Kick-off begins with a chance to watch Justin Dunk and Wes Cates live at 2 p.m. on YouTube. Dave Thomas and Luc Mullinder join at 4 p.m. with the kick-off to follow at 5 p.m. on the Co-operators Roughrider Radio Network.
