World Series fun facts

Tonight (Oct 25th) is game one of the World Series between the New York Yankees and LA Dodgers. This will be the 12th time that the Dodgers and Yankees have gone head to head in the Major League Baseball Championship. The last time they played against each other was back in 1981 when the Dodgers won 4 games to 2. As one would expect, there is a lot of history in the World Series of Baseball, especially between these two teams:

  • The Yankees have the most World Series wins with 27 in 40 appearances.
  • The longest World Series game was in 2018 between the Dodgers and the Red Sox. Game 3 of the series lasted 7 hours, 20 minutes and went 18 innings.
  • The first African-American to play in the World Series was Jackie Robinson. It happened in 1947 when he was a member of the Dodgers. They played the Yankees that year but fell short of a title.
  • Yogi Berra has the most World Series Rings at 10. He won them between 1947 and 1962.
  • The first World Series to be played at night was Game 4 of the 1971 Series between Pittsburgh and Baltimore.
  • The American League has more World Series wins than the National League.
  • The first World Series game took place in 1903 between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Boston Americans. Boston would go on to win that series.

Good luck trying to get tickets to this year’s championship. The 2024 World Series is said to be one of the most expensive in league history, if not the most expensive. The cheapest tickets sell for about a $1000 US for game one. Prices increase with each game. According to StubHub, the average price for a ticket to the game is over $1,600 US with some luxury suites at Yankee Stadium selling for over $130,000 US!

Thank goodness our recliners are free to sit in!
